Shares of Chinese airlines and airports trade higher in Hong Kong, with China Southern Airlines gaining more than 4%, China Eastern Airlines and Meilan Airport up about 3%. 

Data from online travel agency Tongcheng Tavel showed that the total booking volume of inbound and outbound flights on Jan. 8 surged by 628% from a year earlier and hit the highest since march 2020. 

Huatai Securities said in a research note that Chinese people’s confidence in travels will continue to recover after the Spring Festival, with business trips and students’ trips back to schools to drive passenger traffic.
