China firmly opposes the generalized application of the concept of national security and the abuse of export control measures to impose discriminatory restrictions on Chinese companies, the Ministry of Commerce said at a press conference on Thursday.
The comment came in response to reports that the US Chamber of Commerce recently sent an email to its members stating that the Biden administration may announce new export restrictions on China as early as this week and the new regulations could place up to 200 Chinese semiconductor companies on a trade blacklist, prohibiting most US suppliers from shipping to these companies.
“Such actions severely undermine the international economic and trade order, disrupt the security and stability of global supply chains, and harm the interests of both Chinese and U.S. businesses, as well as the global semiconductor industry,” it said.
China urges the US side to respect market principles and fair competition and if the US insists on escalating these controls, China will take necessary measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies, it added.
