China imposed penalties on Kuaishou for failure to address illegal content

The National Cybersecurity Information Center said that law enforcement agencies have recently issued a warning and imposed administrative penalties on Kuaishou due to the presence of illegal content on its short video platform.

The company has been ordered to fully implement its youth mode, thoroughly review and remove illegal content, and appropriately handle accounts involved in illegal activities.

Kuaishou was found to have failed to promptly address prohibited content as outlined by laws and regulations and inadequately implemented its youth mode, which led to the spread of illegal content, endangering the physical and mental well-being of minors and violating the relevant provisions of the Cybersecurity Law.

Law enforcement authorities emphasized that all internet platforms should take this as a warning, learn from the incident, earnestly fulfill their responsibilities as the primary entities managing online security, strictly enforce real-name registration, strengthen comprehensive governance, effectively prevent the dissemination of illegal information, and resolutely safeguard minors against harmful online content.
