China said it’s ready to use rare earth as weapon in trade war

China has been gearing up rhetoric on the possibility to weaponize rare earth to strike back in a trade war with the US, after speculations was prompted by Chinese President Xi Jinpin's visit to Jiangxi province, a major rare earth mining and process base in China.

In a strongly worded commentary published by the official People's Daily, China said the US should not underestimate China’s ability to strike back and noted the US’ “uncomfortable” dependence on rare earths from China.

“Will rare earths become a counter weapon for China to hit back against the pressure the US . . .
