China posted a record trade surplus in December and in 2021, driven by stronger-than-expected exports during the global Covid-19 pandemic.

The trade surplus hit $676.43 billion in 2021, the highest level since records started in 1950, expanding from the $523.99 billion in the previous year, according to data released by the country's General Administration of Customs on Friday.
