China will significantly optimize the non-ferrous industrial structure and energy consumption structure in the industry during the 14th Five-Year Period (2021 – 2025), according to an action plan for non-ferrous metal industry to achieve carbon-peaking target released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.

The country will achieve breakthroughs in low-carbon technologies’ R&D and application, further reduce per unit energy consumption and carbon emissions of key products and raise the proportion of metal supplies using renewable energy above 24%, according to the plan

In the 15th Five-Year Period (2026 – 2030), the non-ferrous metal industry’s energy consumption structure will significantly improve, more than 30% of electrolytic aluminium will use renewable energy and a green and low-carbon industry system characterized by circular development will be largely established to ensure the non-ferrous metal industry will achieve the carbon-peaking target by 2030, according to the plan.
