China aims to nearly double its high-speed rail network, which is already the largest in the world, over the next 15 years as part of China’s ambitious new plan to expand public transport.

The world's second largest economy aims to increase its high-speed railway network to 70,000 kilometers by 2035, representing an 84 per cent rise from the estimated 38,000 kilometers at the end of 2020, according to a blueprint released by the Central Committee of the ruling Communist Party and the State Council, the country’s cabinet.
