China’s business travel demand rebounded in Feb, some industries saw demand return to pre-pandemic levels

Booking volume for business hotels surged 130% in February from a year earlier, with domestic bookings surging about 125% and overseas bookings jumping nearly 10 times, according to China’s largest online travel agency Trip.com.

Compared with large state-owned companies and foreign-owned companies, small and medium-sized companies’ booking volume grew at a faster pace, rising by over 10% from the pre-epidemic level in Jan 2020, showed the data.

In breakdown, the demand for business trips in industries including information technology services, trade and manufacturing, machinery and equipment, and pharmaceuticals is particularly strong, with that in the trade and manufacturing industry and the pharmaceutical industry returning to pre-epidemic levels, showed the data.

In addition, demand for business visas have jumped, with most trips scheduled during the first half of 2023, and the main destinations including Japan, Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Indonesia, etc, showed the data.
