China's auto sales declined year over year in May, the first drop after rising for 13 consecutive months, and the country's car output fell as the worsening shortage of automotive chips disrupted production.

Car sales in China declined 3.1 per cent in May from the same period last year to 2.128 million units, ending a 13-month streak of gains since April 2020, showed data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) on Friday. Auto sales fell by 5.5 per cent in May from the previous month.
