China’s car sales post record drop in February, sales hit lowest since 2005

China's automobile sales posted their biggest monthly decline on record in February and hit the lowest levels since 2005, with car demand hammered by the coronavirus outbreak.

Sales in the world’s biggest car market tumbled 79 per cent from a year earlier to 310,000 vehicles, declining for a 20th consecutive month, said the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) on Thursday.

Passenger car sales slumped 81.7 per cent to about 224,000 vehicles and sales of new energy vehicles plunged more than 70 per cent to about 13,000 . . .
