China’s electricity consumption rose by 10.7% on year in August

China’s electricity consumption, a key barometer of economic activity, increased by 10.7% in August from a year to 852 billion kWh, accelerating from the 6.3% growth in the previous month, according to the data released by the National Energy Administration.

In breakdown, electricity consumption in the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors grew by 14.5%, 3.6% and 15%, respectively, from a year earlier to reach 13.2 billion kWh, 510.7 billion kWh and 161.2 billion kWh. Household sector’s electricity consumption grew by 33.5% on year to 166.9 billion kWh.

In the first eight months of the year, China’s electricity consumption grew by 4.4% year over year to 5.78 trillion kWh, compared to the 3.4% gain for the first seven months of the year, showed the data.

Electricity consumption in the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors grew by 11%, 1.4% and 6.1%, respectively, to 76.7 billion kWh, 3.77 trillion kWh and 925.5 billion kWh. Household sector’s power use in the eight months grew by 10.7% on year to 852 billion kWh.
