China’s electricity generation accelerated in August, coal-fired power generation jumped 14.8%

China’s electricity generation reached 824.8 billion kWh in August, rising by 9.9% from a year earlier, accelerating by 5.4 percentage points from the previous month, leaving the daily average at 26.6 billion kWh, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

In the first eight months of the year, electricity consumption reached 5.6 trillion kWh, rising by 2.5% from a year earlier, according to the data.

In breakdown, coal-fired power generation surged by 14.8% in August from a year ago, accelerating by 9.5 percentage points from July; wind power generation surged 28.2%, picking up by 22.5 percentage points from July; solar power generation rose 10.9% on year, slowing by 2.1 percentage points from July; hydro power generation fell 11%, compared to 2.4% gain in July; and nuclear power generation fell 0.6%, compared to 3.3% drop in July, showed the data.
