China’s electricity generation rose 1.5% on year in Jan – Jun, vs previous 3.3% drop

China’s electricity generation reached 709 billion kWh in June, a rise of 1.5% from a year earlier, compared to 3.3% drop in the previous month, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics. Average daily electricity consumption was 23.6 billion kWh in June.

In the first six months of the year, China’s electricity consumption reached 3.96 trillion kWh, edging up 0.7% year over year, showed the data.

In breakdown, coal-fired power generation declined at a slower pace in June, while hydro, wind and solar power generation grew at a faster rate or climbed back into expansion, showed the data.

Coal-fired power generation fell 6% in June from a year ago, narrowing by 4.9 percentage points from May; hydro power generation surged 29% on year, picking up by 2.3 percentage points from May; nuclear power generation fell 9% on year, compared to 1.3% growth in May; wind power generation grew by 16.7%, compared to 0.7% fall in May; and solar power generation grew 9.9%, compared to 8.3% growth in May, showed the data.
