China’s factory activities expanded fastest since Apr 2012 in Feb – official data

China’s factory activities expanded at the fastest pace since April 2012 in February, with the official manufacturing Purchasing Manager Index (PMI) rising to 52.6, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The reading compares to expected 50.6 and improved significantly from 50.1 in the previous month.

In breakdown, the PMI for large-, medium- and small-sized companies reached 53.7%, 52% and 51.2%, respectively, picking up by 1.4 percentage points, 3.4 percentage points and 4 percentage points from the previous month, according to the NBS.

The sub-index for production picked up by 6.9 percentage points to 56.7%, while the sub-index for new orders picked up by 3.2 percentage points to 54.1%, showed the data.

The sub-indexes for raw material inventory, employment and suppliers’ delivery time all picked up, by 0.2 percentage point, 2.5 percentage points and 4.4 percentage points, respectively, to 49.8%, 50.2% and 52%, indicating slower declines in raw material inventory, increasing employment and faster material suppliers.
