China’s economy expanded at a faster pace in the third quarter as consumers shook off coronavirus caution and stepped up spending, although the growth was slowed than expected, indicating persistent risks ahead.
The economy grew by 4.9 per cent in the past three months compared with a year earlier, accelerating from 3.2 per cent growth in the second quarter, shows data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Monday.
