China’s lithium-ion battery industry achieved a rapid growth in the first half of the year amid the country’s efforts to achieve carbon-peaking and carbon-neutrality goals, said the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Lithium-ion battery output exceeded 280 GWh in the first half, surging 150% from a year earlier, and the industry’s revenue exceeded 480 billion yuan, said the ministry.

Output of energy storage batteries reached 32GWh in the period, while output of new energy vehicle power batteries reached about 110GWh, it said, with lithium-ion battery exports surging 75% year over year.

Output of positive electrode materials, negative electrode materials, diaphragm and electrolyte reached 730,000 tonnes, 550,000 tonnes, 560,000 tonnes and 340,000 tonnes, respectively, surging by more than 55% from a year earlier, it said.

Output of lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide reached 150,000 tonnes and 102,000 tonnes, respectively, rising by 34% and 25% from a year earlier, it said. Average prices of battery-grade lithium carbonate and battery-grade lithium hydroxide stood at 445,000 yuan per tonne and 432, 000 yuan per tonne, respectively.
