China's lithium prices continue to surge this year amid a shortage of market supply and robust demand from downstream industries such as electric vehicle battery producers.

Average prices of battery-grade lithium carbonate, one of the key raw materials for lithium ion battery, hit 454,000 yuan per tonne on Monday, having surged 56.6% so far this year and jumping 485% from the same period last year, according to CEIC data.
