China’s manufacturing activity managed to maintain moderate expansion – Caixin survey


China’s factory activity remained in the expansionary territory in May, showed Caixin survey, in contrast to official data released last week indicating the manufacturing sector was back to contraction. Some analysts believe that front-loading of exports to the US to avoid higher tariffs masked underlying weakness.

Caixin/Markit Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) comes in at 50.2 in May, in line with April, and above economists’ expectations of 50.
