China stepped up crude oil imports from Russian in May amid steep discounts offered by suppliers amid sanctions imposed by Western economies over the invasion of Ukraine, making it the country's top oil supplier.

Crude oil imports from Russia surged to a record high of 8.42 million tonnes in May, increasing by 29% from the previous month and by 55% from a year earlier, according to data from China’s General of Customs . . .
