China's passenger car sales edged up 1 per cent in May from a year earlier, as the low base from slow sales during the Covid-19 pandemic last year is gradually ended and the global chip shortage hampers carmakers’ production.

Some 1.623 million passenger vehicles were sold last month, according to data released by the China Passenger Car Association on Tuesday.
