China’s retail sales of passenger cars expected to rise 23.3% on year in Sept – industry association

China’s retail sales of passenger cars are estimated to reach about 1.95 million units in September, rising 23.3% from a year earlier, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association.

Retail sales of new energy passenger vehicles are estimated to reach about 580,000 units in September, rising 73.9% from a year ago, with penetration rate at 29.7%, said the association.

Data released by the association one day earlier showed that China’s retail sales of passenger cars reached 331,000 units in the week of Sept 13 – 18, rising 28% from a year earlier, surging 43% from the previous week and up 1% from the same period in August.

Wholesale volume of passenger cars reached about 385,000 units, rising 46% from a year ago, up 46% from the previous week and up 21% from the same period in August, showed the data.

In the period of September 1 – 18, retail sales of passenger cars reached about 794,000 units, rising 10% year over year, but down 7% from the same period in August.
