China’s smartphone sales fell 7.4% on month on August, slid 26% on year – research

Smartphone sales in mainland China reached about 20.44 million units in August, falling 7.4% from the previous month and sliding 26% from a year ago, according to data compiled by CINNO Research, marking the seventh month of yearly declines and the worst August sales since 2015.

Honor ranked the top smartphone vendor for the third time this year, with sales rising 4.3% from a month earlier to 3.6 million units, but still down 14.4% from a year earlier, showed the data.

OPPO and vivo came in as the second and third largest vendors respectively, with sales slumping 38.3% and 37.2%f from a year earlier to 3.5 million and 3.2 million units, down 6.3% and 7.7% from the previous month.

Apple ranked the fourth with sales shrinking 0.2% year over year to 2.7 million units, down 12.9% from the month before, while Xiaomi came in as the fifth with sales plunging 40.4% year over year to 2.5 million units, sliding 21.4% from the prior month.
