Tongwei Co., a leading supplier of raw materials for solar panels in China, plans to invest 4 billion yuan to expand capacity.

The company will build a factory in eastern China’s Yancheng which is designed to produce 25 gigawatts of photovoltaic modules a year and the construction will take 24 months.

The planned capacity expansion will give full play to Tongwei’s advantages in upstream high-purity crystalline silicon and midstream batteries, forming a more competitive industrial layout and providing cost-effective components for power-generating clients, the firm said.

Yancheng in northeastern Jiangsu province has become an important production site for photovoltaic equipment in China, Tongwei said, adding that all parts of the solar power industry chain are fully laid out in the local area with sound policy support.
