Shares of Chinese airport operators and airlines are trading higher, with A-shares of Air China surging nearly 6% as of 2:35 pm, local time, Shanghai International Airport up 2.7%, China Southern Airlines up 2.4%, China Eastern Airlines up 1.5%.

China’s flagship carrier Air China will gradually resume several international flights, including those between Beijing – London, Shanghai – London, Beijing – Seoul, Beijing – Frankfurt and Beijing – Tokyo, it said on its official Weibo account on Friday.

China’s three largest state-owned carriers will restart direct flights between China and the UK, resuming services after an 18-month suspension due to the Covid pandemic. 

Air China said on Thursday that it will restart direct flights between Beijing and London from Thursday and also resume flights from Shanghai to London from Saturday. China Eastern Airlines said it will restart services from Shanghai to London on Friday, while China Southern Airlines said on Thursday that it will fly from Guangzhou to London starting August 17.
