Chinese coal miners see their first-quarter net profits surge by more than 90 per cent on year boosted by surging coal prices amid stronger demand and tight supplies caused by restrictions on coal production.

The 4,267 sizeable coal miners in the country generated 562.11 billion yuan in revenue in the first quarter of the year, rising 29.6 per cent from a year earlier, and their total profits surged 94.3 per cent to 80.88 billion yuan, according to data released by the China National Coal Association.
