China’s mobile phone shipments declined 21.9% on year in August – state think tank

China’s mobile phone shipments reached 19.98 million units in August, sliding 21.9% from a year earlier, compared to the 30.6% drop in the previous month, according to data released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Shipments of 5G-enabled mobile phones reached 14.27 million units in August, sliding 19.3% from a year ago, accounting for 75.2% of the total mobile phone shipments last month, showed the data.

For the first eight months of the year, China’s total mobile phone shipments reached 175 million units, sliding 22.9% from the year-ago period, with shipments of 5G-enabled phones reaching 138 million units, falling by 17.9% from a year earlier, accounting for 78.9% of the total, showed the data.
