Chinese online retailers see record sales in “6.18” shopping event

China's e-commerce giants Alibaba Group Holdings and JD.com see record sales during the annual “6.18” summer extravaganza that concluded Thursday.

Transactions across JD’s online platforms during the 18-day festival jumped 34 per cent from a year earlier to 269.2 billion yuan ($38 billion). This figure is the total value of all orders for products and services placed on the company’s online platform, regardless of whether the goods are sold . . .
