A number of regional economic powerhouses in China are chartering flights and offering subsidies to encourage business delegations to travel overseas to attract export orders and investment to support economies as the world’s second largest economy eases its stringent Covid control measures.

The provinces of Sichuan, Zhejiang, Guangdong and Jiangsu have introduced policies to enable business delegations to travel abroad for the first time in nearly three years.

Zhejiang organised a six-day trip for a business delegation to travel to Germany and France, while its northern city of Jiaxing also chartered a flight to Japan for a group of 96.

Sichuan has provided charter flights for delegations to visit France, Germany and Italy for trade events, according to the provincial Department of Commerce. Some 100 companies recently travelled to Hong Kong and the US to attend conventions and secured orders worth over 1 billion yuan ($143 million), according to the department.

Sichuan also plans to organise delegations to visit Thailand, Vietnam and other Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership member countries next year to further exploit the Southeast Asian market.

Nanjing in Jiangsu province has introduced subsidies to help with transport and quarantine costs for companies travelling overseas. Guangdong province will also provide funding for delegations who travel overseas to secure orders.
