Chinese ride-hailing giant Didi Chuxing said on Wednesday that it has entered into a strategic partnership with the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) to help the research and development of the central bank’s planned digital currency – known as Digital Currency Electronic Payment (DCEP) – via its on-demand transport platform.

The testing of the digital cash as a payment method on Didi's platform could be one of the first real-world applications of the electronic version of the yuan.
