Global financial decoupling almost impossible – HKMA chief Eddie Yue

It’s exceptionally difficult for industries such as automobiles and electronics to completely shift their supply chains, said Eddie Yue, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Monetary Authority, at a forum on Friday.

Since the global financial system is intertwined, global financial decoupling is almost impossible, he said.

Geopolitical issues can sometimes give rise to volatile capital flows, so Hong Kong must ensure the affordability of its financial system in terms of foreign exchange reserves, investment in infrastructure and talent, and the establishment of a diverse network of trading partners, he said.
