Several leading Chinese photovoltaic companies signed a self-discipline agreement under the organization of the China Photovoltaic Industry Association during the 2024 photovoltaic industry annual conference on Thursday, reported Chinese media outlet Sina Tech.
The companies include LONGi Green Energy Technology, GCL System Integration Technology, JinkoSolar, JA Solar, Trina Solar, Chint Group, Tongwei, among others, according to the report.
The main goal of the self-discipline agreement is to control production, but no specific quotas were set, it said.
While the agreement is well-intentioned and beneficial for the industry, some companies may have their own plans, said an industry insiders, noting that module prices have indeed been rebounding in the short term.
The self-discipline agreement indicates that the industry has reached a consensus on production control, and some segments have already taken action, another industry insiders say, without elaborating.
