Mainland China will resume quarantine-free travel with Macau as the world’s largest casino hub recovers from its worst ever Covid-19 outbreak.

Macau’s border with the neighboring Chinese city of Zhuhai will reopen from 6 pm Wednesday, according to a notice from Zhuhai-Macau customs clearance.

The announcement came after Macau eliminated community transmission, meeting China’s requirement for resuming quarantine-free travel. China, which adheres to a zero-tolerance policy and is the largest source of Macau’s tourism, shut its border with the city on June 22.

However, those looking to cross the border will need to show a negative NAT test result obtained within the previous 24 hours, the notice said, adding that Gongbei Port won’t reopen until Friday. “Due to equipment being updated in the hall of Gongbei Port and other works, the [opening of customs at Gongbei Port] will be postponed to 6am on 5 August.”

There is no change in the current rules for entering Macau from Zhuhai, which requires a negative NAT test obtained with 48 hours of nucleic acid testing.
