Chinese food delivery giant Meituan's first-quarter profit jumped 60% year over year to 5.37 billion yuan from a year ago, as the number of on-demand delivery transactions posted strong growth. Its core local commerce revenue rose 27.4%.

The growth in takeaway orders was expected to return to normal level in the second quarter of this year, as the low base effect of last year subsides, said CEO Wang Xing at the results conference.
