Shares of Chinese semiconductor companies rally, top chipmaker SMIC surges over 7.5%

Shares of Chinese semiconductor companies stage a rally in the A-share market in the afternoon session on Thursday. An index tracking the sector jumped as much as 2%, making it one of the best-performing sectors in the A-share market, compared to 0.2% loss for the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index.

Shares of SMIC, China’s largest chipmaker, are surging by more than 7.5% in Shanghai, after rallying nearly 4% one day earlier. 

Beijing Huafeng Test & Control Technology is jumping by more than 10%%, Tongfu Microelectronics jumping 10%, Jiangsu Dagang up 8,6% Suzhou Huaya Intelligence Technology up 4.4%. 

Driven by the rally, China’s tech-focused Star 50 Index extends gains more than 1.5%
