Southwest China’s Sichuan province plans to build 210 new power supply projects during the five-year period of 2021 – 2025, with a total of 428.9 billion yuan investment, according to the provincial government-backed Sichuan Daily on Monday.

By 2027, Sichuan’s total installed power capacity is expected to reach about 198 million kW, an increase of 95.23 million kW from the current level, according to the report.

Sichuan aims to rebuild a power supply network in the five year, strengthen the capability for hydropower and coal-fired power supplement each other to ensure power supply and form a sufficient and reliable power supply system with diversified development, according to the report.

In the past two months, a power crunch caused by a record heat wave and drought wreaked havoc across Sichuan province. It dimmed skyscrapers, shut factories, darkened subways, and plunged homes and offices into rolling blackouts, forcing air conditioning to be unplugged.
