Longi Green Energy Technology Co. Ltd, the world largest maker of monocrystalline silicon wafers, is raising prices of p-type silicon wafer again, according to an announcement on Tuesday. It marks the eighth consecutive price hike by the solar giant.

The prices of P-type M10 silicon wafer raised by 0.24 yuan per unit to 7.54 yuan per unit; prices of P-type M6 silicon wafer raised by 0.25 yuan per unit to 6.33 yuan per unit; prices of P-type silicon wafer raised by 0.25 yuan per unit to 6.13 yuan per unit, it said.

Wafers are the ultra-thin slices of polysilicon that get wired up and assembled into solar panels, and Longi is the world’s biggest producer of them, according to BloombergNEF.

Notably, on June 30, Longi had raised the prices of P-type M10 silicon wafer by 6.41% to 7.3 yuan per unit; the prices of P-type M6 silicon wafer by 6.9% to 6.08 yuan per unit; and the prices of p-type 158.75/223mm wafters by 6.52% to 5.88 yuan per unit.

In April, Longi had said that its profits would be cut by higher power costs at one of its key manufacturing hubs in China. Yunnan province, home to 54% of the company’s wafering capacity, canceled the preferential electricity prices it had been offering Longi since 2016.

Separately, Tongwei Co. Ltd, the world’s largest polysilicon producer, on Tuesday raised the prices of 210mm cells by 4.07% to 1.28 yuan /watt; prices of 182mm cells raised by 3.17% to 1.3 yuan /watt; and prices of 166 mm cells raised by 3.23% to 1.28 yuan per watt, according to an announcement.

Earlier, in late June, Tongwei had raised the prices for its entire cell range by between 5 – 7 cents per watt, or around 6%, citing surging prices of raw materials.
