Chinese gaming and social media giant Tencent Holdings Ltd reported an 89 per cent rise in third-quarter profit on Thursday, with its blockbuster game Honour of Kings and solid advertising businesses helping it to beat forecasts.

Tencent made 38.5 billion yuan ($5.8 billion) profit for the three months through September, ahead of an analyst average estimate of 30.81 billion yuan. Its revenue rose 29 per cent year over year to 125.4 billion yuan.
