Xi said China to phase down coal consumption in 2026 – 2030, energy regulator said China aims to cut share of coal to below 56% this year

China will start to phase down coal consumption over the 2026-2030 period as part of its efforts to reduce carbon emissions, Chinese President Xi Jinping said when addressing the Climate Leaders’ Summit on Thursday.

“We will strictly control coal-fired power generation projects,” Xi said. “We will strictly limit the growth of coal consumption over the 14th five-year plan period (2021-2025) and phase it down in the 15th five-year plan period (2026-2030 . . .
