Two Points in China’s Response to Rising US Tariffs Worth Noting – State Media

The U.S. has imposed more than 100% tariffs on Chinese imports and there are two key points in China’s response to the escalating U.S. threat that are particularly worth noting, according to Yuyuan Tantian, a social media account of the state broadcaster CCTV.

Firstly, it’s the expression of “fight to the end.”

Since the U.S. government began to reverse course and raise tariffs on February 1, China has taken resolute countermeasures against the U.S. in three rounds, and over 20 countermeasures have been taken, which are both forced and justified, reasonable, and lawful, it said.

Secondly, China has not closed the door to negotiations, but not in this manner.

The U.S. government is trying to engage in one-on-one bilateral negotiations with countries, using its advantageous negotiation position to break each one down individually.

As the world’s largest trading nation, China is not yielding or backing down, which demonstrates its firm commitment to maintaining the multilateral trading system and is also part of China’s great power responsibility, it said.

“The tariff war is a war for development and development is a universal right of all countries, not just the U.S.’s prerogative. What we need to do is safeguard our right to development and protect the stability and positive momentum of our economy.”
