Chinese companies secured 76% of global shipbuilding orders in April, making it the world's top shipbuilder, according to Clarkson Research, a provider of shipping and trade data.

In April, global shipbuilding orders reached 4.71 million compensated gross tons (CGT) for 121 vessels, marking a 24% increase from a year earlier, and Chinese firms secured 3.58 million CGT, or 76% of the total, for 91 vessels, ranking the first, followed by South Korea with 670,000 CGT for 13 vessels, showed the data.
