China’s air passenger trips hit new record in Aug, domestic air passenger trips in upcoming National Day holiday to rise 17% from 2019-level

Chinese airlines recorded 63.96 million passenger trips in August, marking a new record high, surging 98% from a year earlier and rising by 4.5% from the level seen in the same period in 2019, according to data released by the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

Of that, domestic air passenger trips rose by 11.2% from the same period in 2019, while international passenger trips reached 52% of 2019-level, showed the data.

During the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday, Chinese airlines are expected to record more than 21 million passenger trips and operate an average of more than 17,000 flights per day, according to the administration.

Of that, the average daily domestic passenger flights are expected to reach 14,000 and the average daily passenger trips are expected to reach 1.96 million, rising by 18% and 17%, respectively, from the levels seen in the same period in 2019, it said.
