Chinese battery giant Gotion starts battery production at German plant

Chinese battery maker Gotion High-Tech has started production of battery packs at its plant in Göttingen, Germany and deliveries to clients in Europe are expected to begin at the start of October, the company said on Monday.

The factory employs 200 workers and will have a production capacity of 5 gigawatt-hours a year by the middle of next year, it said.

The aim is for the capacity to reach 20 GWh a year and the plant will likely achieve an output value of EUR2 billion annually when the target is achieved, it said.

The plant’s battery packs will be used in commercial and passenger vehicles as well as energy storage systems and the factory will serve as Gotion’s center for research, development, logistics, and after-sales service in Europe, it added.
