US launches formal investigation into advanced chip in Huawei’s newly launched Mate 60 Pro

The US government is launching a formal investigation into the use of an advanced made-in-China chip in Huawei Technologies’ newly launched smartphone Mate 60 Pro.

The US Department of Commerce said that it is obtaining more information on the claimed 7-nanometer processor found in the Mate 60 Pro.

The chip is produced by SMIC which is sanctioned by the US and restricted from using US technology.
