Chinese stocks posted their biggest one-day loss in eight months on the last trading day before the week-long Spring Festival holiday amid intensifying concern about a new coronavirus outbreak that has claimed 17 lives so far.
The Shanghai Composite Index plunged 2.8 per cent to close at 2976, its biggest one-day loss since May 6, 2019. That brought the benchmark’s losses during the four-day trading week to 3.2 per cent.
