Chinese automakers are facing challenges from slumping sales and disruptions to supply chain due to the coronavirus outbreak and what’s worse, industry insiders estimate the demand in the world’s largest car market may not rebound as fast as it did after 2003 SARS outbreak.

Sales of passenger cars - sedans, sport utility vehicles, minivans and multipurpose vehicles - tumbled 80 per cent last month compared to a year earlier, shows preliminary data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

The association said the plunge was due to low foot traffic at dealer showrooms and difficulties . . .
