Guangzhou, capital of China’s southern Guangdong province, will offer significantly more vehicle license plates this month and relax requirement for non-local residents to apply for car plates, in a bid to boost car sales hurt by the coronavirus outbreak.

The city will issue 17,089 vehicle license plates in April, about 70 per cent higher than the previous month, according to a statement released by the municipal government this week.

About half of the license plates will be auctioned, and the rest will be assigned in a lottery system, according to the statement . . .
