Huawei’s semiconductor unit overtook Qualcomm as China’s top smartphone chip supplier for the first time ever as the impact of the coronavirus outbreak on the country’s smartphone market hit the US giant.

The unit, known as HiSilicon, shipped 22.21 million smartphone processors in the first three months of this year, largely in line with the amount shipped during the same period last year, according to the latest report released by CINNO Research, a China-based consultancy tracking the country’s semiconductor market.
