Factory activity in China expanded for a second straight month in April as more businesses resumed work from the coronavirus-led shutdowns, but a slump in export orders weigh heavily on further recovery of the ravaged economy.

China’s official Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) eased to 50.8 in April from 52 in March, shows data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Thursday, slightly lower than 51 expected by analyst in a Reuters poll.

A reading above the 50-point mark suggests expansion on a monthly basis while a figure below the mark . . .
