China’s soybean imports surged in May, coal arrivals declined, iron ore imports fell

China’s soybean imports surged 27.4 per cent in May from a year earlier, as shipments from top supplier Brazil arrived after weather improved, customs data showed on Sunday.

The world’s biggest soybean importer brought in 9.38 million tonnes of soybeans in May, compared with 7.36 million tonnes in the same period last year. That mark the biggest one-month increase since December’s 9.54 million tonnes, and up from 6.714 million tonnes in April.

Soybean harvest and exports in Brazil had been delayed by rains in late February . . .
