China’s passenger car sales back to growth for first time in eleven months

Overall passenger car sales in May rose 1.9 per cent from a year earlier to 1.61 million, the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) said on Monday, rising for the first time since June 2019.

The sales were 12.3 per cent higher than the pervious month, rising for the fourth consecutive month, booted by continued economic recovery after the coronavirus lockdown.

The association said during an online briefing that the retail sales growth beat expectations and signalled a recovery in the passenger car market. However, it forecasts sales in June will fall, citing . . .
